Tough Talk will dig deeper into the process of trauma narratives and conjoint sessions within the framework of Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is not uncommon for clinicians to feel anxiety around beginning the trauma narrative portion of TF-CBT and utilizing it in conjoint sessions with supportive family. However, this is a crucial step for children and adolescents to be able to share their stories with adults that are safe to begin healing, especially when the hurt has come from within the family. We will address these anxieties clinicians have, look at examples of ways to begin the trauma narrative process with kids at various ages, and provide concrete tools and considerations for engaging supportive caregivers in conjoint sessions. Ethical concerns will also be addressed.
