Immigrant Children’s Program Attorney, Human Rights Initiative of North Texas
The children Marcela serves at HRI are survivors of traumatic events both in the US and abroad. Marcela traveled to The Hague, Netherlands and Freiburg, Germany to study Human Rights and Humanitarian law.
Since joining HRI Marcela has trained on a child-sensitive approach to legal services through the Children’s Immigration Law Academy and the Vera Institute of Justice, among other organizations. Prior to joining HRI’s staff, Marcela served as a volunteer attorney with HRI and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program. Marcela is licensed to practice law in Texas and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Marcela graduated in 2005 from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies. In 2009 she earned her Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
